More then just Werewolves.

We’re getting really close to Halloween so you’ve probably already heard it. Maybe it was on the radio or maybe you hit up an early Halloween party. You know it immediately; those early piano notes can only be “Werewolves of London.” I heard it on my drive into work this morning and it got me melancholy. Warren Zevon was a musical genius, left this world way too soon, and most people will only ever know him for singing about Pina Colada drinking Werewolves.

I had started to write about his career, the ups and downs, the alcohol and drug problems, etc. You can find all of that on Wikipedia.  Instead I’ll let the music speak for itself. Below are a few of my favorite non-werewolf songs. One notable one is missing, but we’ll talk about that next week.

He was diagnosed with Cancer (mesothelioma) in 2002. A frequent guest and sometimes guest bandleader for David Letterman, Zevon appeared as the only guest on October 30, 2002. During the time of that show, it was already known that his illness was expected to be terminal. To Letterman he offered the advice, "Enjoy every sandwich." The below video is the last song from that episode.
