Memorial day

It is Memorial Day. A day most people will be happy to not be at work, maybe go to a picnic. Sadly very few will remember the reason for it though. To remember those lost. Four of my uncles served in Nam, my Grandfather in WWII. On this day I’m thankful for those who served our Country and lost their lives; but I’m also thankful that my family members were able to return. While I have no doubt my Grandfather’s experiences eventually lead to his health problems, I’d like to briefly share the information I have about his time enlisted. This is from an 80th “Blue Ridge” Infantry division book I have.

Earl Hall was drafted Sept 27, 1943 from Ft. Wayne MI and set to Camp Roberts, CA for F.A. Basic Training. While there he was second highest marksman in his battalion. In February 1944, he was sent to Ft. Meade, MD for six weeks waiting to be sent to Europe. From there, he transferred to Boston where he boarded the Queen Mary and arrived in England. Two weeks later he was on a troop carrier and crossed the English Channel to land on Normandy Beach on June 11, 1944. Earl was attached to the 314th F.A. Battalion, Company A, where he earned the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, five Bronze Stars, and Victory Medal.

After the war, he was sent to Camp Atterbury, IN, and was discharged on December 1945. He enlisted in the E.R.C. in 1945 and was discharged in December 1948.

He will always be my hero and I miss him terribly.

I may have a gambling problem

I haven’t gone to Vegas. I didn’t even wander down to the reservations to hit the casino. Instead I’m spending all my time gambling in Thieves Landing and Chuparosa. Both are towns in the new game Red Dead Redemption a fantastic new game from Rockstar. Rockstar games are always full of mini-games but for some reason I’m hooked. I’ve never been a big poker player, but I’d say I’ve put in at least 3 hours into just poker alone. I had finally pulled myself away from the cards when I played my first game of Liar’s Dice.

So I realize that there is about to be an in-game revolution down in Mexico, but if you need me I’ll be over in the bar. I just want to play one more hand before going on.

Everybody loves a Red Head

After falling in love with them numerous Highland games ago, I've finally found a consistent source of beer from the Dunedin Brewery. Total Wine & More is like an alcohol superstore and I don't know why I just found out about it. Thanks to them I’ve got two 6 packs of Redhead Red Ale sitting in my fridge. Now if I can just get some Dropkick Erin Red…
